Twelve years ago, Jane Vernon's world was shattered when she found her fiance, Dominick Manton, in her cousin Nancy's embrace and sent him packing. But the scene had been staged by Dom, owing to machinations by his cruel, vindictive brother, George, to force Jane to jilt him. Now George is dead, his widow, Nancy, is missing, and Jane and Dom are thrown together in a frantic race to find the elusive woman, get some answers, and sort out their feelings for each other. VERDICT Secrets, treachery, greed, and a dash of stupidity (not the protagonists', of course) weave through the plot of this fast-paced, deliciously passionate romance that brings love to the last "Duke's Man" and is a perfect conclusion to Jeffries's addictive quartet. A sizzling romantic adventure; nicely done. Jeffries (How the Scoundrel Seduces) lives in North Carolina.

Dominick Manton should be glad his plan worked. Disinherited by his vindictive brother, George, Dom is eking out a living working as a Bow Street Runner. Dom knows that no matter how much he may love Jane Vernon, he cannot ask her to marry him. So he finds a way to trick Jane into jilting him. Now, 12 years later, George is dead and Dom is the new Viscount Rathmoor when he unexpectedly crosses paths once again with Jane. Jane's cousin, Nancy, who is also George's widow, is missing, and Jane desperately needs Dom's help finding her. Fate, it would seem, is giving Dom another chance with Jane, but can she forgive him for betraying her all those years ago? Plenty of action, clever plotting, and a well-rendered pair of protagonists with an abundance of potent sexual chemistry make Jeffries' latest Regency, the fourth in her Duke's Men series (following How the Scoundrel Seduces, 2014), an absolute treasure.(Reprinted with permission of Booklist, copyright 2015, American Library Association.)
