VERDICT Secrets, treachery, greed, and a dash of stupidity (not the protagonists', of course) weave through the plot of this fast-paced, deliciously passionate romance that brings love to the last "Duke's Man" and is a perfect conclusion to Jeffries's addictive quartet. Dominick Manton should be glad his plan worked. Disinherited by his vindictive brother, George, Dom is eking out a living working as a Bow Street Runner. Dom knows that no matter how much he may love Jane Vernon, he cannot ask her to marry him. So he finds a way to trick Jane into jilting him. Now, 12 years later, George is dead and Dom is the new Viscount Rathmoor when he unexpectedly crosses paths once again with Jane. Jane's cousin, Nancy, who is also George's widow, is missing, and Jane desperately needs Dom's help finding her. Fate, it would seem, is giving Dom another chance with Jane, but can she forgive him for betraying her all those years ago?
