In Richard’s transporting first Country Roads contemporary, a city girl tries to adjust to smalltown life. After losing her job and her boyfriend in Philadelphia, Paige Morrison moves in with her parents in Mirabelle, Fla. Paige immediately gets off on the wrong foot, defensively assuming that everyone thinks she’s “an amoral, promiscuous pothead,” but mechanic Brendan King isn’t thwarted by her prickly behavior. Brendan easily wins Paige over with his charming smile and easygoing manner as he helps her find employment and introduces her to the town’s charms. The romance between Paige and Brendan is sweet and subtle, complete with moonlit kisses, sunny beach picnics, and little touches and glances that slowly rev up their mutual attraction—but gossip and tragedy threaten to disrupt their happiness. Richard’s page-turner marks her as a contemporary romance author to watch.

Paige can't catch a break. She lost her job, her apartment, and her boyfriend, all in a matter of weeks, and she is forced to move in with her retired parents in sleepy Mirabelle, Florida, a town where everyone knows everyone's business. Paige is at the end of her rope when life throws a flat tire her way. When Brendan gets called away from the garage to fix the new girl's flat, he is beyond excited. With her long legs and fiery temper, she's created quite a name for herself, and he can't wait to meet her. Brendan quickly breaks through Paige's defensive exterior, and he likes what he finds: a beautiful, sensitive artist who brings out a side of him he didn't know existed. The two quickly fall for each other, battling stinging gossip and unwelcoming neighbors. But just as they begin settling into their relationship, they're faced with a challenge neither of them saw coming. Passionate and suspenseful, the first novel in Richard's Country Roads series will leave readers craving the next installment.(Reprinted with permission of Booklist, copyright 2014, American Library Association.)
