Lady Verity Fitzroy is sent off to the country by her furious brother after she wakes up in her bed with Rory Lennox, Duke of Abshire. Yet the independent, forthright Verity has no intention of marrying the handsome rake--even though she's adored him since childhood. Rory knows there's no choice, so he follows Verity to Derbyshire, determined to change her mind. However, Verity has far more serious matters at hand. In the rush to leave London, her precious cache of "The Duke Diaries" have gone astray--and all the outrageous doings of the royals she had penned in secret are now being doled out bit by damaging bit in the local papers. If she were to be exposed as the author, it wouldn't be just her own reputation that would be in shreds. VERDICT This lively, sometimes poignant Regency sparkles with humor and brings another delightful couple happily together, leaving just enough loose ends to tempt series fans.
