A journalist working for a Florida lifestyle magazine, Emma Frazier has a major crush on her boss, Ben Gallagher. When Ben joins Emma and her friends for a night of drinks, Emma has hopes that their relationship can become something more. But Ben's mixed signals and the fact that he leaves with the woman who designated Emma the "ugly friend" in their group sends Emma's confidence plummeting. What's a girl to do? In Emma's case she makes a promise that may be impossible to keep. She needs to get an exclusive interview with a reclusive NASCAR driver, Trip Monroe, for the magazine. Emma is counting on the fact that she and Trip went to high school together. Surely he'll talk to her even though he has never been forthcoming with other reporters. And if she delivers, then Ben will be sure to take notice. What she doesn't expect is a relationship that comes out of nowhere. VERDICT The publisher's blurb for Geraci's latest (after The Boyfriend of the Month Club) promises "humor, entertaining, sympathetic characters and a heartwarming romance," and it delivers for the most part.
