Gr 7 Up-Red Robin, Wonder Girl, Raven, Bunker, and Beast Boy are teenage superheroes who fight against the kind of enemies readers might expect-terrorists, robots, evil geniuses, and teens who want to use their own abilities for destructive purposes. But they also have other challenges that are affecting their lives. Wonder Girl discovers that she has a fan club of girls who dress like her and want to fight for vigilante justice, but they don't have superpowers, so she feels obligated to protect them. Plus, her mother comes to New York for a surprise visit, and the superheroine has to keep her from harm's way, too. Bunker is defensive about other people's homophobic attitudes, and his violent tirade is recorded and shared with the world. Raven just wants to be an ordinary girl sometimes but finds it difficult to remain incognito. And Red Robin is the only one in the group with no superpowers, and he has to rely on his wits to survive. Rocafort and Hepburn's artwork is colorful, imaginative, and dynamic, especially when illustrating fight scenes and the many entertaining forms that Beast Boy takes throughout the story. VERDICT An exciting volume about teen superheroes who work together to deal with life-or-death problems; a good choice for "Teen Titans" fans as well as readers who are new to the franchise.-Andrea Lipinski, New York Public Library
