Dil was one of the millions who did not vote for Donald Trump and who ended up mired in a prolonged period of horrified disbelief and mourning. Eventually, she realized that she had options beyond remaining curled up in a virtual fetal position; she could channel her indignation into something positive. Encouraged to write about her own response to the election and her fears for life in an America under a Trump administration, Dil reached out to like-minded women who were feeling a similar existential threat?a task made infinitely easier by the overwhelming participation in the national and international Women's Marches held on January 21, 2017. A research scholar and author in the fields of poverty and social welfare, Dil is no stranger to examining cultural paradigm shifts, and she organizes this collection of reflective and analytical essays around core issues of authoritarianism, immigration, gender rights, and racism, among others. For every person who railed in private or public protest against assaults on our nation's cherished institutions, Dil's anthology provides essential validation, affirming that dissent eventually works and that one's outrage need not be in vain.(Reprinted with permission of Booklist, copyright 2018, American Library Association.)
